MOYA KALONGO is a band of afro-funk, a style triumphing in Paris, London and New York, and of which they are pioneers here at home, combining the unique sound of the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the emblematic funk-soul of James Brown with multiple influences ranging from Miles Davis jazz to traditional music from the north of Mozambique, home of Simonal Bie, the charismatic leader of the band. Their concerts are a festival of groove and dance that incites audience participation. They are currently presenting People (Slow Walk Music, 2016), their second album, which seeks a more raw and forceful sound on the bases and the modernity of effects of the saxophone accentuating the strength of their funk component.
